چکیده

A mononuclear cell alveolitis, comprised in part of activated macrophages, is thought to precede granuloma formation and fibrosis in pulmonary sarcoidosis. Tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF), interleukin 1-f3 (IL-l), and prostaglandin E, (PGE,) are potent mediators released by activated alveolar macrophages. To determine if alveolar macrophage TNF, IL-1, and PGE, release was associated with clinically progressive pulmonary sarcoidosis, we obtained alveolar macrophages from bronchoalveolar lavage of 68 patients with biopsy specimen-confirmed sarcoidosis, cultured the macrophages in the presence and absence of lipopolysaccharide (10 mg/L) for 24 h, and measured TNF (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), IL1 (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), and PGE, (radioimmunoassay) release. Alveolar macrophages from most patients with sarcoidosis spontaneously released TNF, IL-1, and PGE,. The amounts of these mediators released (either spontaneously

Chronic Household Air Pollution Exposure Is Associated with Impaired Alveolar Macrophage Function in Malawian Non-Smokers

BACKGROUND Household air pollution in low income countries is an important cause of mortality from respiratory infection. We hypothesised that chronic smoke exposure is detrimental to alveolar macrophage function, causing failure of innate immunity. We report the relationship between macrophage function and prior smoke exposure in healthy Malawians. METHODS Healthy subjects exposed daily to c...

HETEROGENEITY OF MACROPHAGE POPULATIONS: ANTIBODIES DETECTING VARIOUS POPULATIONS OF MACROPHAGES

Two groups of antibodies against mouse resident alveolar and peritoneal macrophages have been raised individually in rabbits by immunization with whole cell suspensions of lavaged alveolar and peritoneal macrophages. The whole antisera reacted positively with neutrophils and lymphocytes. However, upon extensive absorptions with these cells the activity became restricted to macrophages. The...

Spatial Relationship between Mandibular Third Molars and Inferior Alveolar Nerve using a Volume Rendering Software

Precise localization of the third molars in relation to the inferior alveolar nerve canal is critical from a clinical point of view and strongly affects the surgical treatment outcome. Recently, by using three-dimensional modeling software, the relationship of third molar root apices and inferior alveolar nerve canal can be better understood. In this study, the spatial relationship of two surgi...

Mechanism of Action of Migration Inhibitory Factor (mif)

The initial interaction between migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and the guinea pig alveolar and peritoneal macrophage was studied. MIF-containing supernatants were generated from sensitized lymph node lymphocytes obtained from guinea pigs immunized with bovine gamma globulin in complete Freund's adjuvant. MIF-containing supernatants were markedly inhibitory for the migration of the peritoneal...

Macrophage Apoptosis in Tuberculosis

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is an intracellular pathogen that infects alveolar macrophages following aerosol transmission. Lung macrophages provide a critical intracellular niche that is required for Mtb to establish infection in the human host. This parasitic relationship is made possible by the capacity of Mtb to block phagosome maturation following entry into the host macrophage, creati...

بررسی رابطه پوسیدگی اینترپروگزیمال با Alveolar bone loss  در دندان‌های خلفی بیماران بالای 20 سال

Background and Aims: Caries and bone loss are the most common diseases in oral cavity. The prevalence of these diseases will be reduced by controlling their risk factors. In this study, bitewing radiographs of patients were examined to illustrate the relationship between caries and bone loss.Materials and Methods: One-hundred and fifty bitewing radiographs of 86 patients were evaluated. In thes...
